Yokouchi Pavilion and A&B Amphitheater

Filmed by the father of the surf film genre, Bud Browne, The Essence evocatively shares the beauty of surfing while pondering the reason why we surf.

Beautifully produced with archival footage from the Bud Browne Film Archives, it showcases over 50 of surfing’s greatest legends, including George Downing, Buzzy Trent, Gerry Lopez, and Duke Kahanamoku.

The film is a celebration of the sport and the generations who defined it, capturing the pure joy and mystery of riding waves through the eyes of surfing’s history. Stay for the post-film discussion with Anna Trent Moore of the Archives, and talk story with water pros:  Archie Kalepa,  Andrea Moller, and Paige Alms.
(note: Kai Lenny was also scheduled for this panel discussion, but as of 1/10 has notifed us that he is unable to attend.)

The SURFING HAWAI'I exhibit is open until 7:00 pm this evening.
