Exhibits

Gallery Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm when exhibits are open.  The gallery is also open until 7:30 pm for select Castle Theater and Yokouchi Pavilion shows.  Admission is free.  The gallery will be closed the following days: April 19, April 27, May 10-11, and May 18.

Chenta Laury & Holly Wong

Two solo exhibits interpret the spatial potential of the gallery with installation projects. Maui artist Chenta Laury’s work synthesizes natural fibers into forms that relate to growth, adaptation, and transformation, as modeled by plants and as metaphor for her own life and identity. San Francisco artist Holly Wong creates installations of mixed media assemblages harnessing memory, myth, and unexpressed trauma in visual reconstruction.

O KALANI

O Kalani features the work of two Kānaka Maoli artists who have been active during a resurgence of Hawaiian culture, helping to define contemporary art of Hawai‘i. Known for his large public works of art, Sean K.L. Browne portrays historic and legendary figures and uses Hawaiian iconography in contemporary ways.  Imaikalani Kalahele uses an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on material from the past to current events creating art narratives.

Akihiko Izukura: The Way of Natural Textiles

Master textile artist Akihiko Izukura, from Kyoto, Japan, has created a new installation in the gallery, made with handwoven natural dyed silk and bamboo.
