“ There is an edge of the seat intensity to every note they produce.” - The New York Times
“The most exciting musicians on the classical scene today.” - The Forum
The Eroica Duo is a renowned classical music ensemble known for their passionate, technically polished performances of traditional repertoire and modern, innovative works. While rooted in Classical, Romantic, and Baroque styles, they often incorporate contemporary, bluegrass, and crossover elements into their programs.
When founding members Erika Nickrenz and Sara Sant’Ambrogio were only 12 years old, they had their first musical connection and performances together. The genesis of their partnership started when Sara’s father, John Sant’Ambrogio, then Principal cellist of the illustrious Saint Louis Symphony, was working with Erika’s mother, Joanna Nickrenz, a multiple Grammy Award winning Producer, who was recording John at the time.
Bonded by a shared family history of professional musicians and forged at the famed Juilliard School, where they both attended on scholarship, Sara and Erika set out to make a life making music together by winning the prestigious Naumburg International Chamber Music Competition, resulting in their first of many Lincoln Center recitals. Carnegie Hall soon chose them to represent America in the inaugural Rising Stars series, performing in all the great halls of the world, and their career was started.
A typical concert by The Eroica Duo might start with the sultry sounds of Latin tangos, followed by songs from the Great American Songbook such as Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, and ending with brilliant displays of virtuosity in Chopin and Brahms.
