Alexander Academy Performing Company is thrilled to present the holiday tradition, The Nutcracker. This full-length ballet features the beloved music by Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky, with artistic directors Absalon Figueroa and Amelia Nelson. Costumes by Jennifer Oberg and her Sewing Hui and Alexander Academy.
This classic ballet tells the magical tale of young Clara who befriends a Nutcracker who comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King. The Nutcracker turns into a Prince and takes Clara on an enchanted journey to the Land of Snow, where they are welcomed by dancing snowflakes in a forest wonderland and then travel to the Land of Sweets where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy. The Prince delights in sharing the tale of the daring battle with the army of rats and all are rewarded with a beautiful celebration of dances.
This year’s cast features Anuhea Kelly and Sydney Rebugio as the Sugarplum Fairy; Skye Rosenblad as Snow Queen, Adele Fabbio as Dew Drop, Macie Madaus as the Rat King, and Sol Bridgeford as Clara. Joseph Hernandez joins our cast from San Francisco as the Cavalier and the Nutcracker. Don’t miss our youngest dancers ages 3-6 who steal the show as angels and mice.
We are “...excited and inspired to present our third annual production of The Nutcracker!” says co-artistic director Absalon Figueroa. “It has been exciting to reimagine our ballet to support the pre-professional level of our dancers and challenge them as artists.” Executive Director Danelle Watson Keenan reflects, “The music, dancing, costuming from the Nutcracker warms my heart and is part of the charm I feel each holiday season.” Especially “...to see the magic on a large stage. I’m continually proud of our dancing ohana.” Artistic Director Amelia Nelson comments “I am honored to be a part of bringing this classic ballet to a Maui audience” with the hope it will “become a treasured holiday tradition that families can look forward to for years to come.”
