Island Breeze
is an all-star trio of world class musicians, blending Hawaiian and Japanese instruments in a creatively inspiring and exciting style.. Each considered masters of their own instruments, Grammy Award winning Hawaiian Slack Key Guitarist Jeff Peterson and shakuhachi (bamboo flute) master Riley Lee join forces with taiko master Kenny Endo to create some new and beautiful music. Aa result of their collaboration, the trio received a  Nā Hōkū Hanohano nomination in 2015,  producing  gorgeous and refreshing music that has been likened to an “island breeze”.

Jeff Peterson is one of the most versatile musicians on the Hawaiian music scene. Born on Maui and raised on the slopes of Haleakala, Jeff is deeply rooted in his Hawaiian heritage yet his classical, and jazz influences have given him a unique voice on the Hawaiian slack key guitar. He has contributed to two Grammy Award winning recordings and has been honored with fifteen  Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards.

Riley Lee spent time on both Oahu and Kauai growing up but currently resides in Sydney, Australia. He was the first non-Japanese to attain the rank of dai shihan (grand master) in shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute). An anecdote about Riley: shakuhachi is his main instrument but he was the first Asian American professional taiko drummer in the 1970s with the world famous Ondekoza group (the predecessor to Kodo).  Riley co-founded Taikoz one of Australia’s premier performance groups in 1995.

Legendary taiko artist Kenny Endo is at the vanguard of the taiko genre, continually paving new directions for the ancient taiko (Japanese drum). In 2025, Endo will celebrate his 50th year as a career taiko artist. Though Endo is well known for the thunderous sounds he produces on drums, he brings a subtle but artistic, musical, and infectious beat to Island Breeze.
